Materials: Edge 8, Sightlines 8 and novels (to be determined)
Objectives: What is the message in the story? How do I write it? Different novels and readings will be examined to foster an understanding of the writing process and develop reading strategies. Students will participate in creative projects that will allow them to evaluate their progress as readers and writers. Each student will make connections with personal experiences in their interpretations of various texts. Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of media texts and will also gain experience in oral presentations and classroom dialogue.

Reporting:
- Percentage grades will be used to report on the competencies.
- A global mark in the form of a percentage grade will appear each term as well.
- For the end-of-year report card, each term will have the following weighting:
- Term 1 (20%), Term 2 (20%) and Term 3 (60%)
January exam (30%) competencies 2 and 3
June Exam (30%) competencies 2 and 3

1 Hilroy copybook (32 pgs)
fully stocked pencil case with pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, blue or black pen, "wite-out", red pen, highlighter, ruler, glue stick/scotch tape, scissors
school agenda
fully charged laptop with earphones
kleenex box at the beginning of the year
ONGOING HOMEWORK
Students should read at home for 15-20 mins. everyday.
